Dental check-up take 2

6 months ago Carson had his first dentist appointment and it was a nightmare. Imagine screaming, crying, being pinned down, you get the picture. So I was more than a little hesitant when he had his second appointment yesterday. I am pleased to say he did amazingly well! He opened his mouth wide and let them do everything they needed to do. They even were able to take X-rays. (The hygienist promising him 4 prizes might have encouraged him a little too.) It's amazing how much they grow-up in 6 months.
(They ask them if they want to wear sunglasses because of the lights)

It's a good thing that Carson seemed calm and behaved during his second dental appointment. He may have been scared the first time around, but now that he's familiar with everything in the clinic, he's finally become more cooperative. =)

“Bribing” the kid can be of great help, since this encourages the kid to do well during the entire session. It can also divert their attention from the procedure to the prize. It was certainly a bright and effective idea!

That’s how it went for my son too. On the second appointment, he just magically became cooperative. I couldn’t be any more proud as a parent! :] What did Carson receive from you for behaving well? Rewards always work for kids, after all. It’s better if you’d be giving him small gifts for every little chore he does, like brushing his teeth. :) -->Jamar Schaffer
