Bonner's Visit

Steve's parents are in town for the weekend. While I was on work on Friday they went hiking in Muir Woods and seemed to have a lot of fun. My co-workers threw me a baby shower Friday after work at Chevy's. Steve and Ruth were able to make it to that. Pictures of the shower will be posted as soon as I get some.

Today we went to the California Academy of Sciences. It is a newly renovated planetarium in the heart of Golden Gate Park. It was really cool! There were all sorts of exhibits like a flooded rain forest, various aquariums and stuff like dinosaur bones. This place had a little of everything. The only problem is it's only been open for a few weeks, and it was a beautiful Saturday in the city, so it was very crowded. We all enjoyed it though. After we went to Muir beach and walked around. Trust me, my swollen feet are paying for it now!Steve looking oh so excited in the rain forest exhibit.Coral reefs of the Philippines.

Maternity Leave Has Started

My last day was Friday. It feels great to be done. I made ice cream with the students, which was fun. It was really easy if anyone is looking for a fun activity to do. Here are some pictures of my third period doing it.

Ingredients
1 cup half and half
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla (or mint or coconut extract, etc.)

Pour the top 3 ingredients in a quart size ziplock bag. Put the quart sized bag inside a gallon freezer bag. Fill the freezer bag about half way full of ice and add about a quarter cup of salt. Shake for around 15-20 minutes, then enjoy!

Nursery Updates

So- here is the nursery with a few new items added, like mom's quilt and pillow, the darling antique trucks and plane, and all my kid books I've been collecting over the years.I have a week and a half left of work! Thank goodness. Anything and everything is so exhausting right now. By the time I wake-up, get ready, and drive to work I'm ready for a rest. I also have a bad cold, which doesn't help. Working at a school and having a fetus steal your immune system isn't a good combination. It's all worth it though, right? Everyone says enjoy your sleep now before the baby comes. I don't think they remember what it is like to be 8 months pregnant! At least it is starting to cool off here. October in the bay area is the best time of year. It is high 70's low 80's, bright clear blue skies, and light breezes all month long. I'm so glad I don't live where it is starting to snow this time of year. Bless this beautiful state! Steve's even out water skiing right now.

Baby Shower

It was a very fun weekend. My mom came up to visit Thursday night and I took Friday off of work to play. Friday night my friends threw me a baby shower . There was a great turn-out. I am so lucky to have such loving friends! I got so many cute baby things. Mom brought the quilt she finished for baby boy and I LOVE IT! I'll have to post a picture of it hanging in the nursery later. Now all we need is the baby! I had a check-up on Thursday and the doctor said everything is looking good. I am measuring about a week and a half early. I've got two weeks left of work. After the 24th I'm ready for him to come. Knowing my luck he'll be late. =)

Barack sure has the 17-18 year old demographic

I teach 12th grade government this year. It's a great year to teach it because of the election. I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about our government so far this year. I've also been following the election closer then I probably would have otherwise. Anyway, we did mock elections this week for all of the California Propositions and for president. Here are some of the results that I found interesting:

  • Prop 1 (High Speed rail from Sacramento to San Diego) NO

  • Prop 4 (Waiting period and parent notification for minior's pregnancy) No, which means no notification necessary.

  • Prop 8 (Same Sex Marriage) Yes, which means only marriage between a man and woman will be legal in CA.

  • McCain or Obama?? It was unanimous, all the students voted for Obama.

Bathroom Re-Do for $6.00

Ever since Steve tiled the 2nd upstairs bathroom the blue walls were just not doing it for me. 3 years ago my friend Leesee and I had painted the bottom half of the wall dark blue, then we put up a chair rail and painted the upper half white. I had a blue shower curtain in there, a blue and hot pink curtain, and hot pink towels. It was fun for a while, but a change was needed. I few weeks ago I found this adorable canvas print of a Good House Keeping cover from the 20's. I loved the baby and puppy in a wash bassin along with all the colors. So I decided to paint beige over the blue. I took down all the moldings and re-painted them white and Steve put them back up for me. I also found a shower curtain I liked at Target. It was suppose to be $29.00, but for some reason rang up for $5.97. I didn't question it. I put up an off white curtain that I already had. Oh, and the paint I used I already had as well. So yeah, it was a full bathroom re-do for about $6.00. I should have my own show on HGTV.
